About four years ago, I began having swelling in my left foot and ankle. I spent over two years trying to get an accurate diagnosis. I heard everything from cancer to a blood clot. A vascular surgeon finally told me that I have lymphedema. There is a lot of information on the web in regards to this disease. I wear a compression hose, do manual lymph drainage (which is only a series of exercises--not painful), and wrap my toes during the day. I am only 42 years old. My disease is known as Milroy's disease, a genetic form of lymphedema. Please e-mail if you have any questions, there is help out there so that the swelling and discomfort does not rule your life!
