I first discovered that I might be allergic to Latex when reading (of all things) Mademoiselle magazine a handful of years ago. I had some mouth irritation to bananas and avacados... then band-aids began to itch me, condoms were uncomfortable, surgical tape made me itch... I became Very allergic to tomatoes and avoided balloons, rubber balls etc. Despite visiting 3 different allergists (on a handful of occassions), i was not given any info about tomatoes possibly being related to latex, or which products to avoid. And didn't realize the extent to which i should have been careful. I am now in a more allergic way (had some hives 4 months then esculated to nasal allergies/ congestion, now worse (swelling). I need to know how others cope! What do you wear for bras/ underwear? Any brands or manufacturers who dont use elastic? Does "spandex" clothing have latex, i used to use that all the time... What about gum? Locust bean gum? guar gum? How much do i need to avoid it? My child plays with cars w/ rubber wheels.. is that a prob 4 me.. What bout glues w/ latex/ oil paints (4 artistic ventures). Any and all help wold be greatly appreciated! thank you, Jennifer 24 y/o
