My son turned 6 in June, and he had his tonsils out 3 weeks before his birthday. They did the surgery as an outpatient procedure at 6am, and we were home that afternoon by 3pm. He was uncomfortable for a few days wanting to eat because he was hungry, but was simply unable to eat much more than a bite of jello here and there. He seemed to feel better by simply taking Motrin for pain over the prescription pain medication the doctor gave him. For about a week he whined alot during the night in his sleep and occassionally had bouts of crying, but after the second week, he was his old self again. He also snored and had sleep apnea, but since his tonsilectomy, he hasn't snored at all. Good Luck and don't worry, kids take it much better than the parents.
