I had something similar; it was diagnosed by two separate doctors as 'benign positional vertigo'...the first attack was the worst, lasting two months - every time I turned my head a certain way, things would spin - this included laying on my left side.....it will pass in time and is caused my a virus in the inner ear.....you will find yourself holding your neck stiff to avoid turning quickly and going into a spin.....although frightening (the first attack) I had future attacks about once a year that lasted for about a week and were only about 20% as sensitive.....the future episodes may not cause left or right side sensitivity but may even be looking up or looking down.....just lay as still as possible for about two day during an attack (propped up) Also, the doctor prescribed Meclizine which seemed to help....ps haven't had an episode for two years) as I said, each one is much milder and shorter in length..good luck
