Shingles is from the chickenpox virus and apparantly is latent in everyone who has had chickenpox. It's not clear what triggers it- nerves and stress may play a role. Generally antibiotics don't help. In fact when I had it I was mis- diagnosed and given antibiotics and they made it worse.
