My Mother showed manic-depressive symptoms throughout my childhood. We learned very quickly to get out of the way when there was trouble. But, when my mother felt well, she could be the sweetest and most helpful person. She would literally give someone clothing off of her back or would be there to help at the first sign of trouble. We learned to tune out the bad, and gladly accept the good. I know it is hard, but time may help the effectiveness of the medication. My Mother wasn't treated until the year before she died.
