First of all - stenosis is a narrowing of the spinal canal. It is ususally caused by calcium buildup. When the canal is narrowed there is not the room present to accommodate the spinal cord. Pressure is put on the cord because of the lack of normal space. It produces a variety of symptoms as have been mentioned here such as pain, difficulty in walking, general mobility, etc. A good neuro surgeon can via a small incision along the spine go in and clean out the matter which is causing the pressure. My hubbby had this procedure done about 15 yrs ago. He was up to bathroom 3 hrs post op with NO pain. Took a couple of aspirin once post op and went home in 3 days. Now it would probably be the evening of surgery the way the insurance companies are practicing medicine these days. He went to work the afternoon of his discharge, worked a half day the next day and full days after that. Has been great since that time.
