I'm very sorry to hear about your son's problems. The only encouragement I can give is to seek the help of a pain specialist and a good psychiatrist/psychologist. I have been suffering with FMS for about 26 years. The pain Is Not in his head! Even though most things you read say your pain will not worsen mine has increased every single year to the point that I am now on disability. I go to a pain clinic for treatment (trigger point injections, pain medications) and see a psychiatrist on a regular basis for anti-depressants and anxiety meds. My experience has been that a doctor specializing in pain is more likely to give pain meds at an adequate level to give some relief. But, one of the most helpful treatments is to have someone to talk to who understands. Seeking some kind of group therapy or a counselor lets you blow off steam with no fear of hurting the feelings of a loved one. I wish your son good luck. Feel free to email me for more info or encouragement.
