I had my gall bladder removed last year. I had a gall stone that was 1 inch. in diameter, so I was in quite a lot of pain and as a result my gall bladder was infected. The doctor made 4 tiny incisions and they healed very quickly. And yes, I was told, too, not to do any heavy housework or lift anything heavy for 6-8 weeks, which I didn't. I have not had any ill effects since, as I can eat anything. Although sometimes I get heartburn. I don't know if you will be having your gall bladder removed or just the gall stone.
