The day after surgery I felt GREAT. I was super impressed with the work, which not only included my tonsillectomy, uvulaectomy, but also a reconstruction of my soft pallet? (didn't know that was part of the game plan). The doctors office did a follow-up around 3:30PM to see how I was doing and I couldn't brag enough. After I got off the phone it was a BLOODY! HELL! I started hemorrhaging after a coughing spell and could not stop the bleeding. I was rushed back in for re-cauterization with the explanation that the vessel that ruptured could have caused death if gone untreated. OK, now I'm scared! The last 4 days brought new meaning to word PAIN. Unimaginable pain that is impossible to describe! Today, ending day six, I had the pleasure of another bleeding spell. I bled like a stuck pig for about 20 minutes and got extremely weak at the knees. The On-call doctor did not seem too concerned (probably because it is Sunday). He claims I'll live and if it happens again go directly to the emergency room. OH, that made me feel so much better. I'm still on the lortab(hydrocodone elixir) which burns like HELL, and now a steroid pack for the gross swelling and difficulty swallowing. I'm doing all the suggestions I've read: humidifier, continuous flow of medications, NO milk products, straight lidicane (which I spray down my throat, against the recommendation of the doctor) because I'm unable to find this miracle lollipop I've read about. The lollipop has to be made and all the pharmacies around here are new age and don't carry the separate compounds. I'm a big boy and pain hasn't been in my vocabulary in many years, so this surgery is not for the faint hearted. Good luck to all that have it!
