Severe Sciatica

Neurogenic pain is one of the most difficult to treat; narcotics don't usually touch it, so what are you left with for relief? I, too, suffer from neuropathic pain from a spinal cord injury about eight years ago. I've been taking Tramadol (Ultram) for that long as well. There's nothing worse than this type of pain because you can't get away from it-you can't put heat on it to make it go away, you can't put ice on it to make it go away, and I'm sure you've tried them all. There is hope, however. Medtronic, Inc., has developed something called a neurostimulation system. It requires minor surgery, twice. Once on a trial basis and secondly as a permanent implant. I just learned of this system this past week. The person I saw was an anesthesiologist. My doctor referred me to him, although my doctor didn't know anything about the system but was anxious for me to find out. I'm seriously considering having the procedure done, and if your pain gets bad enough, you might consider it too. Ask your doctor if he/she knows of such a doctor and the procedure. If your doctor doesn't know who to refer you to, make some calls; you can find out for yourself. Good luck.
