I also have had a severe dry eye problem, to the point that it caused abrasions on my eyeballs. I've been through many drops, then the temporary plug treatment. The plugs worked for about a day and a half, then I reacted to the protein in the plugs, resulting in an eye infection and swelling of the tear ducts. After that all healed, my opththalmologist recommend a permanent closure of my lower tear ducts. The upper tear ducts are left open. This was done Friday morning and it's uncomfortable to get through the healing. But now it's feeling better and hopefully it will solve the problem. Ask your doctor about this procedure where they cauterize the lower tear ducts closed, so that the moisture stays on your eyeballs. Hope this is helpful
