Hi Michelle, My daughter Amanda was diagnosed with JRA at age 3 1/2. We didnt know what was wrong for a while. She didnt walk until she was 22 months old. When we did find out, she was put on naprosyn for the inflamation and pain and was sent to physical therapy for 6 months. During physical therapy, she was given cortisone shots in both her knees. She was 4 at the time and she is now almost 9. There have been no flare ups in her knees. I wish I could say the same for her elbow which is where it all started from. Her ROM is so bad in the elbow that I am taking her back to the rheumatologist to get the treatment for the elbow that she had for her knees. She is going to require PT again I am sure and maybe braces again to sleep in at night. The braces slowly would help her ROM. You have to ask your doctor about those. The are flexible and unfortunately, insurance doesn't cover alot of the cost. I am in NY--if you are too, let me know and I will give you the name of the head of Rheumatology at Long Island Jewish Hospital. That is who she sees and he is very very good.
