Cresta
Ihad a complex ovarian mass (cyst)in june of '99.It was the size of a large navel orange. It was very painful and made my sex life non excistent for around 2 months because it was too painful to have sex and it was also very dangerous to attempt intercourse as it could have caused it to rupture, if it ruptures you could hemmorhage, and if it does you need to get to a hospital IMMEDIATELY. The doctors said that if it did rupture you would know it as it causes excruciating pain, so much so that it will bend you over and you will not be able to walk or speak,(this is not true of all cases, but it is very likely)They told me not to lift anything even remotely heavy and to take it easy ,they gave me low dose birth control pills ,they said that these would help to try to dissolve it.These pills worked but it took almost 2 months and they ended up having to do a laparoscopy because i was still having pain after it had dissolved,it turnrd out that the cyst had left some scar tissue and that i had a mild case of endometriosis too. What makes the story even more complicated was that i was due to have my period on the day of my surgery(I was diagnosed on the 1st of june and had the surgery on the 12th of july)I had tried to have sex with my husband around the 1st of july and say around two weeks after the surgery i still had not had my period. I chalked it up to the fact that the trauma of the surgery had just messed up my period, but I called the doc anyway to ask him , he said to take a home pregnancy test just to be sure but that i could'nt be pregnant because he had done a ultra sound the day before surgery and he had'nt seen anything indicating pregnancy( although he did NOT do a pregnancy test before the op.)The test was positive and he had me come in for a blood test immediately ,it was also positive,he had done surgery on me and i had been taking strong pain killers for the first month of my pregnancy.I was 2 weeks pregnant when he operated on me , and i didnt know a thing about it, untill 2 weeks later which put me at 4 weeks pregnant. So if you do have to have an op be sure that he ( the doc) tests you for pregnancy the day before the op.My daughter had no effects from this that we know of ,as she was stillborn due to the cord getting around her neck during labor, her death had nothing to do with the op or the painkillers ,and she looked perfectly normal, no abnormalaties at all, but the nuerological effects of this on my baby i'll never know.So be sure that you have a pregnancy test the day before any surgery, you cannot leave it up to the doc because mine was one of the best ob/gyn docs in this part of the country(Tennessee), and he still missed it,he was an invitro specialist and was rated one of the best in the whole country, yet he failed to recognise a 2 week old pregnancy even when he was inside my belly during the op.
