Mary
Renee: I had the same type of surgery on Dec. 26; it is now Jan. 12. I have had a very sore throat--swallowing really, really hurt--but I am feeling much better over-all, and FINALLY I am both sleeping AND dreaming at night, neither of which I have been able to do in a very long time. The swelling in my tongue has reduced markedly since my discharge. Solid food, even soft solid food, never tasted so good, but I DID lose some unwanted pounds following the surgery. A vaporizer in the bedroom helped quite a bit to keep my mouth and throat moisturized, and ice packs are still a relief, especially at night. Pain has been manageable with a scrip written by the MD, but I expect the discomfort to continue for some time. I have been out of work since the operation, but I will be returning next week. I am 57, and the operation knocked the pins out from under me; I went to work yesterday afternoon and evening (school concert), and I was surprised how tired I was today. All in all, it wasn't easy, but I am, so far, glad I had it done. The CPAP mask isn't very romantic, from what I can see, and my condition was severe to the point that there was no other practical alternative. Feel free to e-mail and let us know how you and your husband have fared since Monday, assuming that you went through with the surgery. Best wishes to you both. Regards, Mary
