I would get a second opinion. Is the doctor you're going to a specialist in Thyroid problems? If not, find one. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism at 18. When I was 30 a doctor told me that sometimes when you're on the medication for a long time you can go off of it. NOT! I went to a specialist because I was feeling so awful, I had been off the meds for 3 months and I was having heart palpitations so badly I thought I was going to die. He said Never go off the medication once you've been diagnosed. It can cause severe problems, including heart problems. I do have to have my dosages changed every couple of years. Right now I'm on Levoxyl, a different dosage every other day. It keeps my levels good. Get into a specialist as soon as possible, and good luck.
