I too have a son who is now 7 years old. He's got global delays of speech, fine motor and gross motor. He's been in therapy since 31/2. Apraxia/dyspraxia (interchangable) were metioned but never really taken serioulsy. But he fits it to a tee. More so than anything thing else we've found. When he entered kindergarten the school pychologist, after 30 minutes of observation pegged him with adhd and said we'd better medicate. I thought what! Then the school pushed and pushed for a diagnosis so they could slot him into what they wanted, telling that that was the only way they could help him. But could never guarantee that it would be available. They didn't know what apraxia was/is and didn't want to find out or deal with that. They wanted the adhd lable and medication. Finally I felt the pressure so much we took him to a local peditrician. She also after 30 minutes said that he was adhd and medication was the only way hd'd have a productive life. I still didn't agree. She sabatoged me totally. Telling me that the way he was was totally my fault because of my vomitting the first 4 mons of pregnancy. We ended up pulling him out of public school and are now home schooling. Because of his inconsistant learning, it's hit and miss and his output processing is difficult for him. He doesn't get that things relate to each other or connect as in sounding words out or math. Right now we are going thorugh a lot of beahviour problems. Hitting, attempting to bit. Most of the behaviour is targeted at me because I'm with him all the time. Any related problems? What to do next? Help of any kind would be gratefully received. Anybody tried herbal route or food sensitivities? More info on apraxia/dyspraxia would be great as well.
