I too have the same diagnosis. Given the seriousness of the treatment I first went to another kidney specialist (the same specialist treating basketball star Alonzo Mourning) but he concurred that the treatment is steriods and an anti-cancer drug. I then went to an alternative medical doctor who did extensive blood work and found high levels of mercury in my body..after having my amalgam fillings removed the mercury levels are now normal but my latest 24 urine indicates the protein went from 6 to 8 grams so I am going to wait another 3 months and redo the urine and blood tests. The statistics indicate that about 60% of the patients with this condition go into spontaneous remission without any treatment. Unless you have having drastic symptoms I would wait. You might want to take more extensive blood work then most physicians do (or that an HMO will pay for) to see if they can determine a possible cause. Hope this helps.
