Hi Keith, Without more information I could not say what the outlook for yourself would be, it would depend partly on your normal health or if you have any problems other then cmv. For most people who get cmv there are never any further problems, however for some it can cause some serious problems, the most common people that have problems are those that are HIV+ people who have had or are waiting for organ transplant and other people whose immune system is poor. You should keep a close check on your vision and if you have any problems get it checked right away as in serious cases it can cause retinitus which if left untreated can lead to blindness. Other problems that people with otherwise normal health have told me about are chronic fatigue and muscle aches and pains. As far as your son is concerned he should be ok if he has no problems now, however it is quite likely that he has the cmv antibodies. Over 85% of the worlds population has cmv but most never have any problem, it is only when caught in pregnancy that a baby is at serious risk. However if it would put your mind at rest you could get your son testedf which would involve some blood being taken and that would tell you if he has the virus and what the cmv antibodies level is. Please let me know if I can help further or you have other questions. I'm sure your son is fine, I have two children a son who was born before the daughter who was stillborn and a daughter who was born after and is now almost two and clear of cmv. I know some of the info you read on the internet about cmv can be pretty frightening, but as i said most people never have any problems.
