I, too have just been diagnosed with Poland's Syndrome. I have been self conscious since Jr High -- and am now 34 years old. My condition affects my chest and my family/friends have always been very supportive and said that this is just "me" ---- however, I do know that it affects my self esteem quite a bit. I have thought long and hard about reconstructive surgery and have decided I want to go through with it. For me, I think I will finally feel a bit normal and my friends won't always stare when you are changing, in a bathing suit or whatever. It affects the clothes I wear and the padded bras just 'sink' in --- bathing suits are always so difficult for me. I was worried about being vain to go through a procedure, but unless someone actually experiences what we have, they won't ever completely understand. I must say that my boyfriends/ex-husband were all very understanding and tried to make me feel like I was still very sexy regardless. This choice is for me and me alone. I would love to chat with other people with this syndrome -- especially ones that did a reconstructive route....if it really has improved your views of yourself, etc.
