I am 23 year old tall thin male and I have had 3 spontaneous pnemothoraxes in less then 4 months while in the Army (3 yrs ago). The first occur while I was jogging in a cold environment, I had severe chest pain and hospitalized. It healed with the chest tube and didn't re-occur for 2 months. I got tubed again and was in the hospital for 2 weeks. 2 months later it happened again. I now had to have the surgery, which was to remove the blebs, the doctor explained that it occurs spontaneously , especially in young people like myself, presumably from the rupture of an air-containing blister (bleb) on the surface of the lung.
