Hi, i was 30 years old when this happened to me. When it happened it was pretty scary because i did not know what was happening. The surgeon could not give me any reasons as to why this happened, just that I was thin (105 lbs.) and was very active. I have 2 children so i was/am always on the go. They told me that sometimes it "just happens". The only thing that you may want to check about with your doctor is that sometimes after this happens once, there is a greater proabability of it happening again, which it did to me 2 years after the 1st time. The 2nd time that this happened, i was in a different hosptial with very good doctors and they explained to me that after the lung collapses the 1st time, there is a 40% chance of it happening again and that to prevent this from happening again, i had surgery to reattatch the lung to the chest wall. That was 4 1/2 years ago and after i recovered from the surgery i luckily have had no problems. Good luck and if you have any more questions, please email me and i will let you know about my history if it is of any help for you.
