I've not seen a doctor about this as it occurs rarely for me...but I had a wild one recently. I've always refered to them as visual migraines. Sometimes I experience pain...sometimes not...but the visual "aura" is a good warning system that it's time to get quickly into a subdued, low light environment. Last time, I immediately took 800 mg. ibuprofen, a soy lecithin capsule, and laid down in a darkened room moving an icepack around on my head. There was zero pain this particular time.
