my 27yo son has been diagnosed with viral retinitis.he has lost his peripheral vision in his left eye and 30%sight in left eye. the retina is severley damaged and they suspect it will detach. he is a law enforcement officer and while arresting an iv drug user his face was spat upon with most spittle going into his eyes.we have only three cases of viral retinitis in oz apparently and the doc who is treating him says that he could not have contacted this virus this way. i do not know where to turn for any information on this thing. they say he had chicken pox when he was a child but i swear he did not.his sister has not had chicken pox either so is this also in store for her according to this doctor.he was in hospital the week he was to be married and the drips and drugs do not seem to be having any effect on this nasty. they say his lungs and kidneys can be effected next. i have never been so frightened in my life for him and his future. i have read your messages and sharon says it can be caught from coughing and sneezing but this expert in our country refuses to acknowledge this. to my way of thinking there seems no other feasible explaination. has any one out there got any information along these lines.great way to start married life and spend a honeymoon with eye injections bi weekly. my heart goes out to all especially those of you who have lost children. stay well and good luck to all. any information would be greatly appreciated.
