I am 28 eight years old and I have had 3 spontaneous pnemothoraxes in a 2 years. The first healed with the chest tube and didn't re-occur for a year and a half. The next happened in the shower. I got tube again and was in the hospital for 4 days. 1 week later it happened again. I now had to have the surgery. They say that if it happens once that you have a 20% of it happening again. After that it goes to 50%. They tell me after the surgery I have a 1% chance of re-occurance. I am recovering from that operation (3 weeks ago). If you have any questions I could try to answer them. the only advice for your son is that it is only natural for him to be scared about it. It quite truamatic. Something like this happens and there is more questions than answers. The feeling of worry and doubt will go away but it may take a while. I have heard that if it is going to happen again it is going to happen. I you or your son have any questions don't hesitate to write and ask. I have nothing to do but sit at this computer for another couple of weeks. I hope your son is doing better. Gavin
