I am a 24 y/o caucasian male. It is Tuesday as I am writing this, and had my tonsils and adenoids removed this past Wednesday. I found this thread after having my surgery, and am glad of that. If I had read these stories prior to my surgery, I would not have gone through with it. So far, I am wishing I hadn't had my tonsils and adenoids removed because of the sharp radiating pain from the base of my neck to the top of my head. That pain is 'standing pain.' When I swallow, or rather, try to swallow, I nearly go through the roof. I know that in time the pain will subside, but I am not holding my breath for that to happen anytime soon. My ears feel as if I am having the worst ear infections I have ever had in my entire life... I have had ear infections where my eardrums bled, that was painful- but this post-operative pain does not compare to any pain I have experienced before. I had a double hernia repaired years ago when I was 13... that was bad- but at least I could still eat back then. This pain is more severe and unrelenting. On top of my current condition, I have also suffered from Fibromyalgia (FMS) from childbirth. Since having the surgery, my general body pain has flared up too... so, all in all, I could be better. As far as the previous individual's post about sleep deprivation, I can sympathize with him... I've slept about 9 hours combined in the last 6 days. The meds I am on as a regular basis for the fibromyalgia aren't nearly as effective since the new addition of bodily stress and post-op pain. Not to mention, the meds I have to take on a daily basis are in pill form... I am managing to take them... I have to 'prepare' to take the pills... and I have no choice in the matter if I want to be able to get minutes of sleep at a time and get out of bed at all each day. I am self employeed and luckily have 'all the time in the world' to recover from this surgery, and, financially am ok... I am lucky on those two areas... I am guessing it will be 1-2 months for my body to get 'back to normal' from this surgery. My ENT went over my health and told me it will take me longer than normal to get over the surgery, and so far, I can aggree. It's going to be a long road ahead of me to get over this, but it will be well worth the temporary discomfort as long as my constant recurrent ear infections, strep throat infections, URI, etc etc... cease to exist... or at least aren't nearly as abundant as they have been since birth... It's been hell, and it's gonna be hell, for me particularly, but will be worth it in the long run- I hope. I will keep this thread updated on my condition in the weeks to follow. I am glad I got it done now, rather than wait any longer. The older we get, the harder this surgery is on a body. I would like to close for any future readers of this message: If you have a medical clearance to get this surgery done; Get it done sooner, rather than later. It will pay off! Lastly, if any readers of this post have Fibromyalgia, FMS, and have had this surgery, please post here with your experiences or e-mail me directly. I am curious how it affected others.
