I had a tonsilectomy in my 30s. and with a local anesthetic...i did not want a general. after years of strep infections, the doc recommended it. i had absolutely NO problems except one minor one....my stomach muscles were sore from gagging while the local was applied...very brief tho'. i think many problems arise from general anestetic, not the surgery itself. but i bet you won't find a doctor to do it for you today...mine was done in the 70s. everyone is too wimpy these days or fearful of law suits. but i'd still recommend getting them out...good luck, liz
