I just want to thank everyone who shared their experiences with having a tonsilectomy. Without all this info, I think things would of went alot different for me. I printed several memos and kept them handy after my surgery. It probably was the worst experience I have ever had, I am 42 years old and I was a strept carrier, with white spots and white stones in my tonsils for the last 10 years. It has been one month, I have almost forgotten the pain, just keep taking the pain meds, I took Lortab, it burns alot, I would actually hang on to the something while I took it, then I would wait for it to take some of the pain away and try to eat jello, broth, soup, some water, I had to give up Pepsi for a few days, actually I didn't even crave it, but I would pour pepsi in small dishes and freeze it and then eat it, what a wonderful treat!! A vaporizer helped so much, also ice packs around the neck, I had two scary times, on Day 6, I woke up with blood all over, an artery had opened up when those scabby things started coming off, finally stopped after one hour, then on Day 12, the same side started bleeding twice in one day, finally stopped. Now, I can look back and say that I am glad that I had it done, hopefully no more strept throat, I was getting it every other month and I was starting to get very weak, and still work full time and take care of three small children. I took two weeks off from work and I am glad I did, the first week was horrible, the second week was getting better, sleep all you can. Thanks again to everyone who helped me through this!!!
