KEITH
I'm 43 years old and I am in day 7 of recovery. I thought I was going to get through this thing without too much trouble. Then day 4 hit. The back of my throat feels like it's on fire all the time. The codeine tabs that they supply are good for about 3 hrs tops. I've been eating them like peanuts! The best advice I have read in this forum is to set your alarm for about 2hrs after you go to sleep. Try and pre-empt the painkillers wearing off. Keep drinking water as often as possible. Lots of water! I got ambitious and tried to eat some soft scambled eggs. DON"T DO IT! Stick to yoghurts, custards, ice blocks, cold water and anything else that has a soft and semi-fluid consistency. By day six, If putting my tonsils back in would have stopped the pain, I would have made them put em back. It's not the burning in the throat that kills. It's the gremlins driving razor sharp cork screws into my eardrums that sets me off screaming. So here I am, in the middle of the night, loaded up to the eyeballs on codeine wondering what the hell I was thinking when I decided to have my tonsils removed at 43 years of age. Gotta go. I need another packet of Panadol Forte and a few pints of yoghurt.
